The Techno Union, upon joining the CIS knew there would be a need for a massive starship capable of carrying large numbers of fighters and also be able to take out enemy warships quicker. The design teams came up with the Techno Union Droid Carrier.
The super laser is about1/150 of the size of that of the Death Star of the Empire era. It's power consumption is way less, and it's got all those engine cores to produce power. It's pretty much just got that main weapon and very few others. It counts on the massive amounts of fighters and bombers it carries to protect it while it brings it's main gun to bear. As for the interior space required for the weapon - it narrows down to a primary core almost directly behind the focusing dish. This core then stretches to the rear of the ship, where the primary reactor is.
The launch bays are arranged in a radial fashion about this core. The main bays have plenty of room, and the retrieval bays dont's need that much room. Plus, each droid starfighter is approximately the size of a Mini Cooper, so it can easily fit thousands about the vessel.
