Thranta War Frigate
Role: Light Frigate
Used By: Republic
Nicknames:
Manufacturer: Alderaanian Shipwrights
Length: 250.0 meters
Armament:
4 forward Class 4 ion cannons
30 Class 5 laser cannons
The Alderaanian War Frigate turned Armoury Ship was originally constructed to serve the Alderaanian Fleet during the Clone Wars. After the Clone Wars, Alderaan's Council of Elders had most of its planet's warships scraped and melted down into peace medals that were presented to the crews and surviving families as mementoes. However, the War Frigate Another Chance was among the few exceptions. The vessel was one of the more powerful warships of its time and the pride of the Alderaan Fleet. Once Alderaan renounced war and began to take its mostly pacifist stance, the Council of Elders secretly converted the Another Chance, restructuring it for use as a spaceworthy armoury. Its systems were rewired so that droids alone could crew the vessel. Prior to the victory at Derra IV, Rebel sympathizers secretly recovered this vessel, whose infantry arms were replaced those lost at Derra VI. Due to the great secrecy surrounding the operation only a few key Rebels were aware of it. As an unfortunate result, the Empire diverted resources from pursuing the fleeing Rebels in order to locate and recover the Another Chance and its cargo.
It featured two main decks, a hanger bay, a multi-level engine section, banks of power cells, and the all-important multilevel armoury. Its nav computers were programmed with an unending series of hyper-jump co-ordinates, which controlled the ship's frequent, but short hyperspace jumps back into realspace. Control of the vessel was achieved through autopilot controls with the aid of an astromech droid. Before being refitted the War Frigate featured a large number of weapon batteries, all controlled from the weapons control room. All of the weaponry except those located on levels one and two were removed. In case of an emergency, large escape pods capable of holding up to eight persons are maintained and will not launch if the vessel is in hyperspace. A powerful droid brain and computer mainframe located in the computer control room control all of the installed automated systems onboard the Another Chance to keep it jumping through hyperspace. The ship's fully stocked sick bay featured two bacta tanks.
Computer work stations located in the Computer Centre were in place to allow the crew to access the ship's main computer for their own personal research. These workstations were not powerful enough to manipulate the main computer. Power chargers for use by the ship's droid population could be found in the Droid Storage room. The Maintenance Facility is in place to alert the crew to any problems throughout the ship, including breakdowns, dirt, etc. Since the vessel is devoid of sentient life the data is routed via relay line to the main computer, which can dispatch droids to deal with the alerts. Located inside the Pilots' Ready Room were dozens of chairs, dozens of flight suits which hung from the walls, a briefing podium and a holoprojector. The Rec Room featured holochess tables, a holovid projector, three data book readers, and sabacc tables.
Astrogation calculation stations, hyperdrive monitoring stations and the powerful nav computers containing the programmed jump co-ordinates are located in the Hyperdrive and Astrogation Monitoring room. Engineering Control overlooks the engineering section of the vessel, showing the massive engines through its plastisteel viewing wall. The engines were once controlled from this station, but they have long since been routed to the master computer. Field artillery, grenades, explosives, ammunition, a dozen repulsortanks, and melee, ranged, and energy weapons can be found stored in stasis fields to preserve them in the Multi-level Armoury. Five of the seven power cells provide energy for the ship, with the remaining two held for a reserve and emergencies.
The Another Chance was assigned three escorts. They were Alderaanian Thranta-class War Cruisers' Valiant, Courage and Fidelity. The War Cruisers were outfitted with robotic controls and were slaved to accept commands from the Another Chance. Months after the destruction of Alderaan, a team of Rebels managed to locate and recover Alderaan's secret Armoury Ship. Before scrapping its fleet, one Alderaanian War Frigate and three Alderaanian War Cruisers frequently comprised a patrol in the Alderaanian Fleet
