A few days ago, I picked up Failed States, by Noam Chomsky, and today I got the audio book Hegemony or Survival, also by Noam Chomsky. I look forward to reading/listening to them.
This got me thinking about the country at large. With all this talk about the "War on Terror," and supporting our troops talk, one must wonder where the line between being a patriot and being a nationalist is. I consider this batch of current partriotism to actually be more akin to nationalism, a deadly path that leads to misery for all. While one should respect authority, one must also have the right to question it, and get a full, complete answer from it, without fear of retaliation.
We are asking the questions, Mr. Bush, but where are your answers?

I would contend that current patriotism is not nationalism. Many people support the troops in the GWoT, but think we're doing it wrong, shouldn't be in Iraq, etc...
Nationalism would be blindly following the idea that our nation can do no wrong (including Abu Graib).
