Friends, Jedi, Marksmen, lend me your ears! The 27th annual Orycon convention is taking place on November 4th-6th in Portland, Oregon this year.... Check it out. www.orycon.org/orycon27/index.htmlI'm thinking of going again, and I would love to meet up with anyone here who could make it. Any takers? (Updated title to Orycon 28 -Steedo)

I'm sorry I couldn't justify it last year. How about Orycon 28. I can justify that, Heather Alexander is recording a live album there or at least parts of one.

The hotel room is $99 + 12.5% tax a night, or about $111 a night split up to four or five ways. So I can get a room, and if Nik and Cyberbal want to share it will only be $37 a night. I recon we'll only need to sleep in the hotel the 17th and 18th, so that's $74 a person if we can get three people together to share the room. Let me know if you are interested in sharing a room and I'll book it. I'd rather not have to share a room with the Klingons again. You don't know how loud a drunken Klingon snores...

I'm torn between Orycon and GenCon SoCal. My mind says Orycon, but my heart says... Orycon. Eh, I'd rather meet my online friends than go to GenCon SoCal. Though my dad was set on going to GenCon, so I will have to talk to him when he gets back from New York City.

I can save the cash I'd need by then.... Besides, it'd be great to meet you guys! Cyberpal can finally school me in the ways of the Pen & Paper RP!
I'll request the days off of work, and put it together. See you then!
One more thing.... Does the fare for staying the night include admission to the convention, or not?

I'd love to go. Maybe I can convince my mom to let me go if I pay for it...

It's just a weekend thing. No, unfortunately Nik the hotel and con registrations are entirely separte and got to wholey different people. Actually, I'll probably pick up more than my share of the hotel room costs, because I can. But the more people we get the cheaper for everyone. I'm assuming we all are for nonsmoking, and we'd want to avoid being put on the party wing/floor...

I don't smoke, and should my dad decide to come (I doubt it), he doesn't smoke either.

Ew.... Icky, icky carcinogens.... And, unlike the rest of you, I am still unable to drink, so I doubt that I would be interested in any of the same "parties"....

I only smoke when someone lights me on fire, which so far, I've largely managed to avoid. }} Well, I guess there isn't any reason for me not to reserve the room now, I can always cancel it later.

I will be able to make it this year.
HOWEVER...
...It was recommended by my dad that I get a room for myself, since sharing a room with 2 to 3 other people might be uncomfortable for me. So unless there's a shortage of rooms at the hotel, that will most likely be my plan.

If he's givin' you the $225 for your own room, that's fantastic. Other than that it is your call. Only you know what sort of comfort levels you have or what sort of reactions you'd have to sharing a room with relative strangers. First off if you are worried about your Asperger's being an issue, don't. I helped take care of my brother who was initally diagnosed with Autism, but that wasn't it exactly. You are a lot heigher functioning than he is. We know you, we aren't going to be freaked out or anything. Have you never shared a room with anyone, brothers or sisters? It's basically just like that, only for two nights, and you don't have to worry about people going through your things looking for your secret diary or anything, 'cause we are probably as weird or weirder than you and you'd probably be leaving the good stuff at home anyway. }} I do know that it can get a bit lonely and boring having a room designed for four alone to yourself, but there will be TV and it looks like inroom internet access (if you bring your own computer to use it). I'll have a laptop for our room... Anyway if you are paying for it, it's your call. If not... Luck barstad. I wouldn't mind if I could get someone else to pay for my own room. }}

The room would have been out of my own pocket, just like at FURCON 2006.
Considering the fact that my cash reserves are not what they used to be, and more importantly, the fact that I like you guys, I think sharing a room will be okay for the convention.

Sweet! Break out the party hats! *Toots on noisemaker*
Seriously, though, you don't have to worry with me, either, Cyberpal.... My twin sister is deaf, and is mildly-retarded(I hate that word), so I have no problem with anything. As far as events go, which you were asking me about earlier, it's mostly classes and games, stuff like "World building", "Script-writing", and things of that nature. As far as the other things go, you'll have to ask Steedo.... He gets around more than I do, at least the first time we met!

World building Rocks! Literally! }} Yeah, it's mostly panels in the morning and afternoon, or games, And then in the evening more formal entertainment like masqerades and dances. Oh and did I mention there was going to be a big Hether Alexander concert? As far as the panels that are going to be availble... You might take a look at last year's to get a good idea what this year's will look like.

Just a little 411 for everbody: Despite my current 'net restrictions, I'm still planning to make it to OC28. I'll let you know if there's a problem.
