Yes, my dearest friends, it's true! The Original, uncut, unaltered version of the Star Wars Trilogy is fianally coming to DVD! We'll finally be able to see Han shoot first, the wolf guy in the cantina, and even the original Ewok song in completely remastered DVD clarity! More here: www.starwars.com/episode-iv/release/video/news20060503.html_________________________________ Man, I dunno' how they got Lucas to do this.... It's not as if the anguished cries of millions of fans ever got to him before.... But, hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, right? It looks like September is going to be a great month for those films we love, coupled with the release of Star Wars Lego:The Original Trilogy! But, those DVDs are only going to be available for a short while, so try to pre-order AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I only hope that they don't run out of copies for what is most likely the most highly-anticipated DVD release of all time!

As for the timing of this... I think the only reason Lucas is doing this now is that he has nothing else to sell, so why not finally give fans what theyasked for all along. I'm no expert on DVD remastering, but it seems to me that a lot of the work had already been done when he preared the Special Edition release. Even if not, remastering to DVD is not expensive, or you wouldn't see all the old movies on DVD for about five bucks in the supermarket. I've see 'em in bulk for $1.88 a disk!
So for minimal cost he can make a a lot of money, without competing against himself. Basically most everyone who was going to be the Special and Really Special sets already has. He's bet that a fair number of the fans would buy the revised versions, even if they perfered the Original Theatrical releases, because that was all they could. Now a certain percentage of those will also buy these. If he released this while his other box sets were still selling strong, people would be be more prone to choosing one or the other.
From what I understand it's a limited time offer and not a limited run. Which means he'll keep cranking out disks as long as people keep buying them. Once the quantaty demanded drops off he'll stop making it. *sigh* It's unfortunate the Lucas understands economics so well.
"Highly anticipated" is all marketting hype anyway. I will buy this, because I didn't buy any of the previous DVDs. But it's really not all that mind blowing that Lucas released it.

I was excited to see the special editon, but now i look back at it, it's well lousy, i do like Temuera Morrison doing Boba's voice, but then again, i recongize him as JANGO. plus, that scene of han shooting first really sucked. he looked like damn puppet. and jabba looked like shit in CG!>_< i DID like the new ewok song, that's one highlight. If they could add scenes... WHY DIDN'T THEY INCLUDE THE B-WINGS! AT THE BATTLE OF ENDOR?!! THEY HAD THE CHANCE! ; DAMN! i'm alright....^^;

Plus why didn't they add the deleted scenes from the original versions?

perhaps cause they didn't have the time. they should not have added the Han/Jabba scene on episode 4, it just doens't work.
