In the gaming world, I am frequently surprised by the power and ingenuity of our crazy, wild entertainment machines. Level design, art, and the storylines themselves are incredibly interesting.
Something that I felt had been lacking, though(At least, personally), were the truly epic battles.... Something you could play and, afterward, totally geek out about it. Or, even something that truly made you say "Uh, oh! I'm in it deep, now...."
Games that have recently doe this for me are Kingdom Hearts II and God of War, with their ambitious action sequences.
Surprisingly, however, it is an older title which captured my attention this evening.... Star Wars- Rouge Squadron III: Rebel Strike.
After spending nearly a year away from it thinking the controls were too wonky to give the game merit, I went ahead and played the little-seen Battle of Hoth stage. We rode the TaunTaun across the battlefield, which is incredible in itself, but something really took the cake for me.... When we went into our X-Wings, we had to go after TIEs.
Now, now, I know what you're thinking.... "TIEs? What's so bad about TIEs? They don't have any shields, and you can kill them with one shot!" See, that's what I thought.... Until I saw the solid black swarm headed smack dab into the three transports I was guarding. At least a Hundred TIEs in the first wave alone, instantly rendered by my little GameCube.... It's funny, I know now why the Rebels fear the TIE so much now.... That swarm meant DEATH!!!
There were more than this, but you get the picture....
The first time that I was afraid of TIES.... Wow.
