(Star Wars Extended Universe history)
Prince Starmotors is a firm on Coruscant building a number of airspeeders, from the small, yet incredibly chic BOX, to sleek sporting models like the Z-33 and GT-R35. The GT-R35 is based on the GT series of hardtop coupes, and has Prince’s most powerful speeder repuslorlift engine, the 6-coil RB26DETT. Prince’s speeders use oxygen as a reaction catalyst, and spent exhaust gases turn two turbines, which are connected to a pair of fans on the intake side of the engine, charging more ambient air through the reaction chambers, and increasing the power of the repuslorlift effect. Four small ion turbines at the rear of the speeder provide additional thrust. The afterburner sections of this particular GT-R35 have been modified somewhat: instead of simply injecting additional fuel, both fuel and a gaseous oxidizer are introduced, creating what essentially is a simple rocket engine. Normal GT-R35s are capable of hitting 600+kph; so modified, this GT-R35 can hit 750 kph.
(Inspiration history)
Since seeing the airspeeder chase scene in Star Wars Episode II, I’ve wanted to create a Star Wars representation of one of my favorite cars, Nissan’s Skyline GT-R. This speeder is based on the upcoming R35 GT-R. The 6-coil twin-turbocharged engine and its model designation are direct plays off of the 2.6L twin-turbo I6 of the GT-R. The four turbines are a quad exhaust, and the rocket afterburners represent a Nitrous Oxide system: in fact, Nitrous could be the “Gaseous Oxidizer” mentioned. “Prince” was the make that originally built the Skyline before merging to make the company that became Datsun, and then Nissan, so I decided it’d be good enough to be a stand-in for Nissan. The other models, the “BOX” and the “Z-33” represent the Nissan CUBE and 350Z (Fairlady-Z).
