Nyhan are a race of hyena-like beings that inhabit the Outer Rim area of the Galaxy. They feel a strong bond to nature, and have designed their civilization to work with it, rather than against it. Their homeworld, Ny, resembles Alderaan, except it is more heavily forested. While Nyhan are a space faring race, with a few colonies, they were not part of the Old Republic. They attempted to stay neutral in during the Clone Wars, but were invaded by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. While the Republic offered assistance, the Nyhan rejected it, believing that once the CIS was expelled, the Republic would not leave and would force the Nyhan to become part of the Republic. This decision saved them from being occupied by the Galactic Empire once the war ended.
The Nyhan are not as advanced as the Republic, but they have excellent biotechnology, including primitive bio-nanites, which can quickly repair damaged material. Nyhan ships are organic in appearance (but not in actual structural material), and contain nano-foam, which can quickly seal breaches in hulls.
