The Twilight Runners
Ships:
CR90a: ‘R’ Squadron: Raid, Revenge, Rawk’s Drift.
CR90: ‘B’ Squadron: Blanker, Bor IV.
CR90 (modified to starfighter carrier): Hold.
DP20: ‘V’ Squadron: Vulpes, Valkyre.
RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptors: Omega Squadron.
Background Information:
The Twilight Runners were formed immediately after the Battle of Yavin to harass Imperial shipping and disrupt Imperial covoys, under the command of Captain Karla Twilight. The unique feature of her command was that she chose entirely female crews for all of her vessels, a practice which she continued to maintain throughout her service in the Alliance and New Republic.
The flexibility of the CR90 was fully exploited and the original Runners consisted of a squadron of five heavily modified CR90s. These had been configured to have heavier armour, more powerful shields, warhead launchers and better armament.
Twilight led her squadron on many fearless, and some would say reckless, attacks on Imperial shipping. Twilight’s boldness and daring paid off and attention was diverted to providing better cover for Imperial convoys.
Despite high casualty rates amongst her crews, the romanticism surrounding an all female Corvette squadron meant that there were always willing replacements. After the Battle of Endor and with a surge of fresh ships provided for the Rebel cause, the Runners were reorganised into its current configuration.
In recognition of her achievements, Captain Twilight was promoted to Commodore and given a host of new vessels to command. This included the newly formed all-female Omega Squadron who were assigned to support her group. She was also given command over a sizable detachment of Fleet troopers, again all female.
Twilight continued to lead her battle group either directly form one of her CR90a or direct them from Hold. With her new ships Twilight stepped up her attacks on Imperial shipping and developed increasingly more aggressive and risky tactics. Her trademark was to knock out Imperial corvettes and small military craft and board them, often taking them as a prize. However this backfired on more than one occasion, with the heavy casualties leading her to be hauled before the High Command of the New Republic navy. However she was too much of a valuable asset to dismiss, so she was always returned to command and her losses replaced.
The Runners continued to serve the New Republic successfully until 11ABY, when the group was cornered and in a series of ferocious boarding actions and space battles, the group was
annihilated in the opening stages of the Battle of Onderon.
