Xerrol Nightstingers were a type of blaster rifle produced by the Empire after the Battle of Endor for use in covert assasination attempts. The Nightstinger fires invisible blaster bolts which pack the same destructive punch as a regular blaster bolt. The obvious advantage to this is that shots can be fired from practically anywhere, including open, public places, without anyone being able to tell who is doing the shooting. By using deflection mirrors and blaster tubes, a sniper can create the illusion of many firers - or of many (visible) shots being fired from a specific location. Aside from this, the Nightstinger has many drawbacks, however. It only does an average amount of damage but it uses incredible amounts of Tibanna Gas (which must be specially treated to assist in the production of the invisible bolt), each canister of gas can only produce 3 to 5 shots before being depleted, and the special crystal used to focus and alter the color of the bolt is very expensive and very rare. If you're looking for a stealth sniper rifle that can reach out and touch someone without anyone knowing the source, go no further. If you're looking for a run-of-the-mill sniper rifle, look elsewhere.
