The SR-11 ‘Shadowdeep’ assault rifle is a hybrid rifle that offers a lot of choices to users. It has a special system inside its rather large chassis. It can switch from firing projectiles (slugs) to fire laser bolts, plus a grenade launcher. This is due to a system that generates the laser shot without using the barrel.
Most blasters have the laser spun-made inside the barrel, but the SR-11 generates the shot inside a separate chamber located in the butt, and then propels it down the long barrel. The advantage is that the barrel can fire other ammo types since it does not have the laser spinning chambers. The drawback is the laser bolt loses lots of power, decreasing the range of the rifle.
The rifle can also fire slugs from a clip just behind the trigger. When the gun is selected to slug mode, it injects a shell into the breech and closes the connector channeling the bolt from the chamber to the barrel. Because it has such a long barrel, the rifle can fire long ranges.
The third fire is a grenade launcher. The launcher is above the handgrip, which swings down for reloading grenades. The launcher can hold one grenade, with one grenade above the launcher. The handgrip is cocked to slide the second grenade into firing position. It is mainly can fire the C-line of Merr-Sonn grenades.
The assault rifle is somewhat popular with law enforcement due it versatility. They can have rubber bullets and knockout gas grenades, with the blaster mode in reserve for serious situations. The rifle would have been more popular if it could fire stun bolts. However, due to its complexity, it cannot generate the bolts. Another downside is that it requires two powerpacks to provide the immense energy needs.
The rifle never did well with the Empire, and it was too expensive for the Rebels. It mainly was sold to private government’s Special Forces or law control. Criminal organizations, including Tavers Cartel, bought lots for heavy-hitting power.
