History: the T-74 Gunboat was designed by Incom Corporation as a compact system patrol craft to be used by military and police forces. The craft was well armored and shielded for its size and mounted an impressive array of weaponry. In addition it had limited crew facilities and a hyperdrive to allow the craft to stay deployed for extended periods of time should long range patrols be required. While not the fastest or most maneuverable of ships, it could outrun most cargo ships and using its ion cannons disable any faster ships that might attempt to flee. Many forces that used the craft for patrol purposes would equip them with ion or mag pulse warheads to enable them to disable targets at long range or that were too quick for the gunboat to catch. Inevitably some T-74s made their way into Rebel Alliance hands and were well liked by their crews. They were frequently used as picket ships by the Alliance who would deploy them on ranging patrols within friendly systems to give Alliance forces in the region time to react to any incoming hostile forces. T-74 crews in the Alliance were noted for their aggressive tactics and oftentimes had to be reprimanded for taking their valuable gunboats into overly dangerous situations. A typical warhead loadout for Alliance gunboats was 12 concussion missiles for anti-fighter purposes and 6 proton rockets for engaging larger ships. There were several noted occasions when lighter Imperial warships were ambushed by aggressive gunboat crews who flew in close and dropped proton rockets onto their target before disengaging, leaving the unfortunate vessel crippled or even destroyed. This reputation for aggressive tactical moves from these gunboats and their crews earned them a much deserved reputation amongst Imperial military personnel for being dangerous ships to encounter, especially when combined with their durability which enabled them to survive hits that would destroy smaller attack craft.

The T-74 was originally conceived of by the late CanisD. I cleaned up his image and added a landed version as well as a pilot design for it. The info was created by SlingBlade87 over at DeviantArt for me.
