Just as the title asks: could the Galactic Empire take and hold Earth? This question is asked with the assumption that the Empire has in mind putting their own regime in place like on Lothal and Mimban.

I think they would.

The YouTube video that inspired this was of the opinion that they could take Earth, but holding it would be a whole different kettle of fish...
Look for the Templin Institute on YouTube.

Then, relying primarily on visual evidence with regards to weapons effects, ROF, and effectiveness compared to what we know about the world's militaries, do you stand by what you said?

The Empire could conquer Earth, but couldn't hold it for to long.

Well, one could argue that the Empire could, conceivably, hold Earth if it was willing to pay the butcher's bill (and we both know that the Rebellion would take gleeful advantage of those legions of Imperial troops being on Earth and not trying to deal with them)... That said, I think the bill is one Palpy wouldn't want to pay.
