This is the story I WAS working on for the Fall of the Jedi contest. It's not finished (obviously), and I may never be able to finish it. If you think you can finish it or even modify it to make it better, feel free to do so, but do it in another topic please. And yes, I do know that this isn't at all following Star Wars canon in the least bit most likely, but it's how I wrote the story.
Geonosis, Outer Rim. Republic clean-up operation.
The air was thick with droid fighters of all sorts. Though this did not cause concern for her own safety, Nacela Shada, an ace pilot of the Republic, did worry about the safety of the green recruits under her command; after all, they did not have the experience of fighting the Separatists like she had. During the last major mission, only the arrival of Jedi saved her wing from total annihilation.
“This is Green Four, I’ve got some on me! Need help before I’m…;” before he could finish, his life, the life of another clone, had perished from hostile fire.
“Damn,” yelled Nacela, “We’ve lost forty percent of our force! Where are the Separatists getting all these droids from?! The battle for this planet should have ended over a year ago!” She continued to take out enemy droids with ease, avenging the loss of her wing mates with each kill. Three more clone fighters went down in flames. Just as it looked like her wing would be destroyed, a small force of Jedi Fighters arrived on the scene.
“Having trouble with your droids?”
“Commander Akuji, good to see you! Yes, we are having difficulty here. Any help would be welcomed.”
“Consider these droids scrapped!”
Thanks to the arrival of the Jedi, Nacela’s wing was able to clear the skies of hostiles, while only losing two additional clone fighters.
“Thanks for the help Akuji; looks like this is another one I owe you Jedi for.”
“All in a day’s work. Meet you back at the command ship.”
Later, at the debriefing…
“What’s the status of our wing as of now, Commander Shada?”
“Well Captain, we’ve lost half of our fighters from the Separatist remnants on this planet. Casualties would have been much worse if not for those Jedi.”
“Yes, the Jedi have been quite a blessing to us on this campaign. I don’t know what we would do without them. They’ve been protecting the Republic for over a thousand years; may they do so for a thousand more, at least.”
“Captain, it looks like we’re getting a message straight from Chancellor Palpatine. It must be important if he himself is speaking.”
“Yes, it must be.”
“Every single Jedi is now an enemy of the Republic. Do what must be done. Do not hesitate. Show no mercy.”
An eerie silence filled the room. They were petrified in fear and shock at the order Palpatine had issued. They could not believe it. Was it a joke, a test of loyalty, or, had Palpatine gone mad? Finally, Nacela spoke.
“I …I …I don’t believe it. Why would Palpatine order this?”
“I don’t know. But we are the only ones aboard the ship so far that know of this right now. And frankly, I don’t care what Palpatine just said, we owe the Jedi for all the help they’ve given us. I say that we should evacuate the Jedi. Question is, where to?”
“Captain, my husband’s family is the owner of a major shipping company, and they are scheduled to make a delivery here in less than an hour. His family has been helped by the Jedi many times in the past; I’m sure he wouldn’t mind smuggling them out of here.”
“Good idea. Let us inform the Jedi of this at once. Oh, and Shada?”
“Yes Captain?”
“I want you to go aboard that ship too.”
“What? I don’t understand?”
“The Chancellor is likely to find out about what we’re going to do, and when he does, he will not take this lightly. I want you out of here when that happens.”
“But what about yourself?”
“Someone needs to delay this being leaked out to Palpatine, so that the Jedi can get to safety.”
“But Sir, that’s certain death for…”
“Yes, yes I know. But some causes are worth dying for. You have your orders.”
“Yes Sir!”
Ten minutes later…
“I… I… I don’t believe it! Why would Palpatine do such a thing?”
“I don’t know, Akuji, but that’s what happened. Nacela and I just received these orders a few minutes ago. We’ve arranged a pick up for you and the rest of the Jedi onboard this ship. Now quickly, get to the docking bay. The transport will be there soon.”
At the same time…
“Let me get this straight, Nacela. You’re saying that Palpatine wants the Jedi dead?! Unbelievable!”
“It’s true, the orders came from Palpatine himself. We need your help in getting them to safety.”
“Very well then, we will evacuate the Jedi to a safe place. Though I hope that Palpatine does not find out about this, or it will be the death of us all.”
As the transport unloads its cargo…
“Is that the last of the Jedi, Nacela?”
“Yes, all twelve of them are onboard now. We should leave as soon as possible.”
“Good idea. And I’m glad that you’re coming with us as well, since you’re as good as dead if you stay here. What about the captain?”
“He’s staying here in order to delay Palpatine as long as he can. This the last of the cargo?”
“Yes.”
“Then let’s go!”
Twelve hours later…
“Palpatine! What a pleasant surprise! What brings…”
“You know why I am here. You deliberately let the Jedi escape from your vessel. You had your orders. Now, you will suffer the consequences.”
A few days later, at the Shada shipping company…
“Otieno! Nacela! Your lives are in danger!”
“What?!”
“A Republic fleet has entered the system! As we speak, they are making their way to the planet!”
“Well, we knew that this would happen sooner or later. Begin evacuation procedures!”
“Yes Sir!”
