The T65T was one of several designs tested by the Rebel Alliance in an attempt to find a suitable multi-purpose combat/bombing craft in it's continued fight against the Galactic Empire. The T65T was considered a success, but it's design came only months before the B-Wing Starfighters were designed, and the T65T was passed over almost immediately. The T65T was an excellant ship, and the few dozen built were put to good use in the war against the Empire.
The T65T relied on a crew of two, a pilot and a gunner/navigator. The T65T's systems were a bit more advanced than it's predecessor, but many pilots complained about the lack of an Astromech socket. The advanced combat computer and navigational systems were in most veteran's opinions, "No replacement for a good Astromech". Despite it's enlarged hull and additional crew member, the T65T was actually faster than the standard X-Wing, and only sacrificed the slightest bit of maneuverability. As a combat starfighter, the X-Wing Tandem could easily hold it's own in dogfights, and it's Torpedo magazines held a total of 20 High Yield Torpedoes, making it deadly against ground targets and capital ships alike.
Most T65T's were thought to have been decomissioned, but rumors persist of a few that vanished from Republic possession, and turned up on the Invisible Market. If such rumors are true, one can only hope that they don't turn up in the hands of Pirates....or worse.
