Early successes with the 'Heavy ‘95' led the Alliance to conclude that wider bodies would be a good improvement for almost all starship performance concerns. Before finalizing the design of the Z95 cross-body strake modification, the Alliance decided to add similar body modifications to the workhorse X-wing fighter. Increased mass capacity and better heat-handling make this vessel a substantial improvement for Rebel pilots.
