Description:
The fast and deadly DP20 Gunship is one of the few CEC military designs. Engines fill more than half the interior of the small vessel, while weapons emplacements take up most of the rest. The turbolasers and concussion missiles make it a threat to larger capital ships, while the quad laser cannons make it an effective anti-starfighter platform. Given the ship's mission profile, the majority of the crew is comprised of gunners. These vessels are often deployed in packs for screening and escort duty and saw extensive action during the Galactic Civil War, primarily with the Rebellion. GEDB ==================================================== The Corellian Gunship is a small and heavily armed vessel designed entirely for warfare, unlike its close cousin the Corellian Corvette. This design is one of the few combat-only vessels manufactured by CEC, and it is capable of successfully taking on vessels larger than itself and fending off starfighter raids. In short CEC had two things in mind when they designed this vessel, for it to be quick and lethal. For its speed and size, the Corellian Gunship has no equal as an anti-starfighter platform. Almost half of the Gunship's interior is consumed by engines, with the remainder eaten up by computers, shield generators, and weapons. As a result there is precious little space for storage, passengers, or even troops. Gunners compose the majority of the crew, with a small command crew and tech staff filling out the rest. Gunners are the key to the Corellian Gunship's success. The gunners are trained to work in unison, and utilize the vessel's weapons to their utmost capabilities to surround the vessel with a barrier of laser fire which is nearly impenetrable, and thus cause substantial damage to any starfighter squadrons that dare to attack. However, each of this three engine ship's batteries are fully manually handled with no assistance from the bridge. Without a major overhaul to the computer systems the weapons cannot be controlled from the bridge. Coordination of fire is difficult among trained crews, and all but impossible for those who are not. This vessel is composed of five full decks, with two additional "decks" known as the dorsal and ventral gunnery decks. Deck one contains repair shops, parts & supplies storage, armoury, light and heavy equipment storage, ship's stores and the computer control deck. Deck two encompasses crew quarters for the engineering personnel, the crewmen and officers, lounges and galley for the crew and officers, two turbolaser power generators, and the bridge. Deck three maintains sublight systems control, sensor & communications control, science & medical labs, sickbay, two turbolaser power generators (continued from deck two), weapon systems control, emergency repair facility, shields & screen systems control, hyperdrive systems control, environmental control and power distribution control. Deck four features engineering maintenance, auxiliary systems, droid storage & maintenance, general maintenance, equipment storage, speeder/skiff hanger & repair shops, main escape pods, security hold/brig, the (dorsal section of the) forward hold, and a (forward) cargo airlock. Deck five comprises of storage, five cargo airlocks, belly hold, speeder/skiff launch bay and the (ventral section of the) forward hold. Located in the engine assembly between the engine nacelles and the outer engine casing are four small gaps leading to the engines' interior and ultimately the deep access crawlways (which are protected by heat-resistant plating). These narrow and cluttered gaps are large enough to accept a speeder bike. From the engine assembly, the deep access crawlways lead entry onto deck three. These entryways are the only ones designed to be accessible during flight, and are generally employed only in emergencies where the engineer must go to the ship's exterior to conduct crucial repairs. The accessway hatch leading to the deep engine access crawlways can be opened by manipulating a series of dial-like latches. It must be noted that individuals trying to gain internal access to the Gunship while it is in the process of leaving the atmosphere (after the individual has made it into the engine assembly via speeder bike) will suffer heat and/or electrical damage (since the engines generate a considerable sum of static electricity). The Gunship's entrance bay is four by five metres, the ship features eight turbolifts and its nav computer is located on the bridge. If the wires and other components of the nav computer are ripped out or trashed and the command console is destroyed, and if the Gunship is in hyperspace when that occurred, the vessel will remain locked on its hyperspace course (the Gunship would drop out of hyperspace when it reaches the destined coordinates). Replacement parts for the nav computer can be manufactured onboard using the ship's machine shops, however, it would require a team of skilled craftsmen. This vessel's external cargo loading doors for the forward hold feature emergency hyperspace seals which automatically close when the Gunship enters hyperspace. Should for some reason the loading doors open while the ship is in hyperspace, these transparent plastisteel seals are designed to prevent the contents (and atmosphere) of the forward hold from being sucked out. However, these seals merely provide a better carrier surface for the hyperfield and are not load bearing, and thus when the seals are exposed to pressure differential of realspace vacuum they would shatter. Coolant tubing, ventilation shafts and other gaps in the Gunship's superstructure are large enough to allow men to pass through them (to get to other decks). It must be noted that the ship's superstructure is not affected by artificial gravity, meaning that anyone venturing into the superstructure will experience zero-gravity. Control panels to operate this vessel's hatches require nine Equalizing Amplitude Unit chips. Should a small gash in the hull occur, the ship's automatic environmental systems releases leak-seeker balloons in the vicinity of the breach. These balloons are quickly drawn to the breach by the escaping atmosphere. Upon hitting the breach, the balloons burst and seal the gash with quick-drying sealant. This vessel sees service within the Empire, an example would be the Gunships which are assigned to defend the Bakura System. However, the Corellian Gunship is unfortunately primarily employed by the Rebellion. Other users include corporations, smugglers, pirates, private defence fleets and a few private armies. On a final note, it must be mentioned that this vessel is capable of taking on and defeating a Star Galleon, such a feat was accomplished by the pirate gunship Dark Revenge commanded by Dharus.
