The DP50 Heavy Gunship was introduced by CEC as a capital ship escort and as such is equipped with a far more extensive armament than its smaller cousin. The addition of ion cannons and an increased warhead complement make them a serious threat to larger capital ships, while the dozen quad laser cannons ensure they remain an effective anti-starfighter platform. Never extremely common, these vessels are nonetheless highly effective in their intended role. Prominent examples include the four gunships assigned to protect Admiral Ackbar's Galactic Voyager.
