OOC: Neither is Daxx.
IC: "I know both of you aren't big into wine and such, but I went all out purchasing that bottle. And I want it to last, so we are only having a small amount." informs Vallen. Finally everyone is seated. "Kari, you are welcome to have the first bite if you wish."

Kari takes the bite, and her face lights up with pleasure. "Vallen, you missed your calling as a cook when you decided to be a starfighter pilot," she says.

"Thank you. I've thought about that a lot lately... now that Daxx and I are an item, I am retiring from snubfighter pilot duty." Vallen informs. "My sister was a little upset when I told her, but her heart melted from the meal I made her. I'm going to be the head cook on base as of next week."

"Maybe you can do something for the quality of the meals at Requiem Base, then," Kari says, grimacing at the memories of the poor quality food she'd had while staying at the base. "That's part of the reason I moved out, guys."

"Oh, I intend to do just that." responds Vallen. "Droids cannot cook a damn."

"You're kidding me!" Kari bursts out. "DROIDS were doing the cooking?"
OOC: There are droids that can do just that and do it (relatively) well.

OOC: I am aware of that. I have The Essential Guide to Droids (the original version).
IC: "Not kidding. Only 'cook' droids the Alliance can afford are tramp freighter galley quality" adds Vallen.

OOC: I have both versions of that book, along with both versions of The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels.
IC: "Ah, that explains the poor quality of the food," Kari says.

OOC: Same here.
IC: "Many a night I paid a long visit to the toilet for that droid's so called cooking." says Vallen. "Maybe my sister will allow me to put a blaster bolt through it's faceplate."
"Na... let Jade at the cooking droid." quips Daxx.

"Good idea, Daxx!" Kari exclaims. "She should be down in the garage if you want to ask for her help."
OOC: By this point, they've finished the meal and are upstairs in the living room.

IC: "I almost feel for the cook droid... ALMOST" says Vallen.
OOC: Ok.

"I don't," Kari says resolutely before flipping on the holoplayer to watch the news. She pales at the lead story: the Empire had scored a major victory on Hoth. "This... is not good," she says slowly.

"Damn..." say Daxx and Vallen in unison.
"Wait a minute... the numbers that the Empire is listing as dead rebels is 3 times as many as actual people assigned to Echo Base." says Vallen. "Typical Empire lying about the numbers as always."

"Vallen, how would you know the numbers assigned to what I'm sure was Alliance HQ?" Kari turns to Vallen and asks.

"One of my friends was stationed there and he told me the numbers. Hope he's alive and safe. Probably not sadly." says Vallen.

"I hope Garr's seen this report and taken the appropriate security precautions," Kari responds.

Daxx' comlink chimes to life.
"Daxx, can you and Vallen pick up Kari and come to Requiem Base?" asks Garr over the link. "I've called for a briefing in regards to the loss of our base on Hoth."
"We're actually at Kari's flat..." Vallen informs.

"Right, let's grab the speeder," Kari says, standing up and switching off the holoplayer.

The trio is soon on their way to Requiem Base via a old abandoned path into the mountains.

They quickly arrive and drop the speeder off in the base motor pool before heading up to the briefing room.
