The briefing room is jam packed with base personnel.

Kari quickly finds the woman who had become her surrogate mother in the chaos. "Garr, what's going on? Is this related to that breaking news bulletin I saw on the HoloNet?" Kari asks.

"I'm afraid it is Kari. Reports say it was a bloodbath. Many of our friends and fellow Rebels are dead. Some have most likely been apprehended... 17 of the 30 GR-75 medium transports had been destroyed or badly damaged during the escape from Hoth. We don't know what has happened to Princess Leia, Commander Skywalker or any of the other officers." informs Garr. "One of the GR-75 transports is actually coming here to the Onderon System. Because of the fact that landing planetside in an identified Rebel craft would bring the Imperials down on them and most likely us, the Unifying Force will stay at the edge of the system. We need pilots to dock smaller transports with the Unifying Force and spirit the survivors back here. Challenger Squadron, formerly under my brother's command, will make a diversion for the Imperials on the opposite end of the system until the GR-75 is empty. A number of containers of organic mass with simulate casualties when the transport self-destructs. Challenger Squadron will then jump into hyperspace atleast three times until finally coming back to base. Any questions?"

Kari just sits there, her jaw hanging open in shock. When she pulls her jaw off the table, she mutters, "Damn. How much time do we have, what are the chances of this going wrong, and why do I feel a sudden urge to be well away from the Onderon System on legitimate business when this all goes down?"

"The Unifying Force will be here within an hour." says Garr. "And I want you out of the system, Kari. I need to know you are safe. Take Daxx and Vallen with you."
"You cannot be serious!" shouts Daxx. "You will need all medical personnel on hand."

Kari whirls in her seat to look at Daxx. It's a long, fulminating look that Daxx has long since learned presages her temper detonating like a thermal detonator or a plasma grenade. "DAXX, SHUT UP!" she snaps. "If the Empire finds Requiem Base with you here, you wouldn't even make it to prison and you know it at least as well as I do, if not better!"
Vallen adds his own non-verbal nod of agreement to Kari's statement. "I suppose I need to find Keith Rogan, then," he says mildly, causing her to look at him curiously. "We can't risk leaving him here where the Empire could conceivably nail him if he's going to work for you on the Silverwind, Kari."
OOC: The pilot our characters were discussing a few posts back? Yeah, that's Keith Rogan. The names are a nod to Voltron and The Last Starfighter.

OOC: Nice.
IC: "Should Requiem Base fall, we need someone to find an inform others in the Alliance." Garr informs. "And if possible find survivors hiding in the mountains. May the Force be with us all."

"Vallen, go grab this Keith Rogan fella you spoke of, then meet Daxx and myself in the motor pool," Kari says as she gets up and hugs Garr for what may be the last time. "Stay safe, Garr," she tells her surrogate mother, tears leaking from her eyes. "I don't want to have to bury or eulogize the closest thing to a mother I've ever known this soon in my life!"

"If it comes to it, I'll take as many Imperials as possible with me." says Garr. "This base still has some nasty surprises hidden away."

"That's not what I meant and you know it, Garr!" Kari laughs. She releases Garr from the hug, looks at Daxx, and says, "Time to go. I need to lock my place down, hard, to make sure nobody can get in, like I always do when I'm going offworld, and clear my departure with spaceport control. So much to do, and so little time to do it in."

The quartet is soon aboard the Silverwind. As they prepare to make the jump to hyperspace, they see the Unifying Force burst into the system, with a number of turbolaser holes punched in the hull. The engines then overload on the damaged transport, ripping away part of the aft end. Daxx can only watch as the bodies of survivors from the Battle of Hoth cartwheel in the void.

"What a way to go," Kari remarks sadly after the ship enters hyperspace. "Not with a bang, or even a whimper..."
Keith Rogan nods quietly.

After the Silverwind entered hyperspace, a number of escape pods launch from the dying transport.

OOC: So, where do we want our heroes to go now, and will they ever return to Onderon? Remember that both the Novastrom couple and Kari have property on Onderon (and Kari's poured more than a pretty penny into her place if you recall) when you make the decision.

OOC: I figure that Garr and several others managed to escape the destruction of Requiem Base and will seek Kari and the others.
IC: It has been two weeks since Daxx, and the others fled Onderon. They have set up shop on Corellia after hearing an un-named rebel base was destroyed on Onderon. Kari is heartbroken, thinking that Garr is dead. As luck would have it, Kari never got rid of the personal HoloNet comlink Garr gave her. It soon comes to life.
"Kari... if... you can hear me... pick up. There are only... about a dozen of us left." starts Garr. "We took a old bulk freighter from a nearby scrapyard... thing is almost dead in space... atmosphere is leaking. We can at the following co-ordina BZZZZZ"
Despite the audio cutting out, the co-ordinates are still transmitted.
"We need to go save them." says Daxx, punching his fist into his other hand.

"Yes, we do, but we can't go off half-cocked," Keith responds, while Kari simply watches the two of them argue like she was watching a sporting event, but she's obviously weighing her options.
"I, for one, would like to get home, assuming the Imps haven't trashed my pad out of sheer spite and spleen," Kari says wistfully. "That means going to get the Requiem Base survivors. But at the same time, Keith's right, we can't go out there without a plan."
OOC: She needn't worry about that. Her place is still locked down tight. She's eventually going to have a relationship with Keith Rogan.

OOC: Awesome. I see Garr smiling at this. Also Garr would probably give Kari some more "items" when Kari and Keith get serious.
IC: "I'm glad my sister made it out." says Vallen. "Though the way she was talking, she may not be in one piece."

"Does the main hospital in Iziz still owe us those favors for the bacta we got them about a year ago when the Bacta Cartel got in a snit with them somehow, Daxx?" Kari asks as they pack their gear aboard the Silverwind. "If so, we may have to call one of them in if Garr's as badly injured as she sounds."
OOC: I never said their relationship would get that far, now did I?

"Let's hope they are willing to help. The Empire may have put the fear in them." says Keith.

"All they'd have to do is loan us the space, Daxx can operate the tank," Kari says as the two of walk to the ship's cockpit. "He did it for me, after all, when I had the Cardooine Chills and the Empire isn't nearly as popular on Onderon as they seem to think they are. Trust me on this. Now, let's get our clearance from Spaceport control and get out of here."
"Right, Boss," Keith acknowledges.
